The Value of Thanksgiving…

“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” —Meister Eckhardt

I admit to having a problem; and my problem is that am an ungrateful human being. Its almost like I give God targets to meet to earn gratitude from me!!! Oh My!

I hear myself thanking God only when I escape some otherwise not very pleasing situation. Classic example is like when you pass a road block and you are not flagged down. You had been so tense, holding your breath and tightening your butt if the stretch you were driving had increased by some chance you would have sh* your pants!!

We just take it for granted that his Mercies are new every morning.

How many times have you heard someone say, without a hint of shame, I don’t know how to pray? I have heard that countless times. And its usually without a hint of shame!

We all know how to pray darn it, we all know how to say Thank You. Thank you for this dear life, Thank you for my family, Thank you for my up to date mortgage, Thank you for my job, Thank you for my temperament. Thank You.

How simple is that?

Yet we all fall short.  We wake up in the morning and go about our business as if we know how to pump life into our bodies.

 >“Gratitude is a fruit of great cultivation; you do not find it among gross people..”— Samuel Johnson (1709-1784)

Wouldnt it be rude if you were to give a beggar in the streets some change and he grabs it from you as if it were his money and walk away without so much as a glance your side?

I am putting this here so that everyday, everytime I read this i know there is a reason to be thankful to the Almighty. Even when eevrything else is not working alright, you still have a reason to thank God.

Purpose to be grateful to God every evening when you put your head down to sleep, and when you lift your head up in the morning. I know, I know, I may yet fail, but try, I will.

“To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, but to live gratitude is to touch heaven.” —Johannes A. Gaertner

When you Thank God for what you have and what you aspire to have, He is obligated to grant you according to your faith. Even for those who do not necessarily believe in God, do you believe in the power of the universe?

Do you believe that action begets reaction?

Well everytime you express gratitude, your own essence begins to notice more to be thankful about and then before long the whole outlook is positive and we all know about the power of a positive thought, don’t we?

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” —Melody Beattie
